Befekadu Taddesse Woldegiorgis is just finishing his PhD entitled “the development of a versatile conceptual water quality simulator” at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). His research focuses on the enhancement of the applicability of fast conceptual water quality simulators. In his PhD research, he focused on 1) improving the robustness of the solution scheme of conceptual water quality simulators 2) developing a probabilistic size-dependent sediment transport simulator for conceptual sediment transport modelling and for modelling the dynamics of sediment-bound pollutants' transport and 3) developing a simple methodology for the water quality simulation of complex stream networks and reverse flow conditions using conceptual models. During his PhD, he was in charge of the development of an improved conceptual water quality simulator for the project “Development of conceptual models for an integrated river basin management” – owned by the Flanders hydraulics institute. Besides the water quality modelling he has a rich background in hydrology and hydraulic engineering.
