Our Mission

To inspire and train changemakers for a sustainable world. Through research, teaching, and community engagement working across engineering, natural sciences and social sciences, the School of Environment and Sustainability leads transformative change on complex environmental and sustainability challenges by collaborating with global and local partners and mobilizing knowledge, with a special commitment to benefitting rural, remote, Indigenous, and Northern communities in our province, country, and around the world.

Our History

Student field research, circa 2011

Established in 2007, the School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS) welcomed its first cohort of 10 students in September 2008. From the beginning, SENS brought together faculty with diverse disciplinary backgrounds and a shared commitment to addressing complex environmental and sustainability challenges.

This interdisciplinary approach continues to shape the SENS experience, connecting knowledge across disciplines and equipping students to explore practical solutions for the environmental and sustainability issues facing communities locally and around the world.
