TRANSECTS

Dr. Maureen Reed is Distinguished Professor and UNESCO Chair in Biocultural diversity, sustainability, reconciliation and renewal at the School of Environment and Sustainability, University of Saskatchewan, Canada. A committed transdisciplinary sustainability scientist, Dr. Reed’s research program focuses on the social dimensions of sustainability – how people, processes and institutions – shape decisions about environment and development. She focuses on rural places, including Biosphere Reserves/Regions, and rural and Indigenous communities, learning how governance processes can support community resilience and well-being. She and her students have conducted research about and addressed social inequalities related to gender and other intersecting factors embedded in environment and sustainability sectors including forestry, climate change, biodiversity conservation, and One Health. An award-winning teacher and community-engaged scholar, Dr. Reed has gained a deep appreciation for multiple ways of knowing and doing among rural, Indigenous, academic, and community organizations and peoples. She is excited to lead TRANSECTS to learn from a diverse international team and support the next generation of sustainability change makers to gain and apply the professional, relational, and intercultural skills and competencies needed to transform transdisciplinary sustainability research and practice in the coming decades.
