Workshop - Launching an Academic Career

Join SENS faculty for a one-day short course for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. The day will consist of short lectures and small group discussions on how to get an academic job and then how to thrive in the pre-tenure years.

Jeff McDonnell (GIWS/SENS), a natural scientist, and Maureen Reed (SENS), a social scientist, will provide senior faculty perspectives based on many years serving on hiring committees and working at different universities in Canada and the USA. Other faculty guests will provide early- to later-career perspectives, including lessons learned from the academic job hunt.

Friday, April 6
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
National Hydrology Research Centre

The day will be an enriching exchange of ideas aimed at demystifying the academic job scene and providing tips for success in an academic career track. Participants from across campus are welcome. Enrolment is limited to 50, on a first-come, first-served, basis.
